About us

Diverse. Connecting. Anchored.

We identify relevant topics at an early stage, coordinate the initialisation of projects and mobilise our members to successfully implement joint activities. Our work focuses on topics such as urban logistics, climate-friendly transport solutions, the use of new technologies and, of course, people as key players. Together, we are shaping the future of logistics - diverse, connected, anchored.

For this, we have been consistently awarded the EU GOLD label since 2013.

Strategy and fields of action

Hamburg as a leading innovative logistics region in 2030

As a public-private partnership, our overarching goal is to support the transformation processes in logistics with our activities and to strengthen the competitiveness of companies and the Hamburg metropolitan region as an attractive and diverse European logistics centre.

Increasing added value on the basis of innovation

As an initiator, operator and manager of innovation projects and topics at regional, national and international level, we create added value for the logistics network and thus for the Hamburg metropolitan region. To this end, we pilot new logistics solutions and bring them to realisation at an early stage.

Competently networked logistics

As an innovative network, we proactively take up topics at an early stage, moderate the discussion of issues and increase the quality of cooperation between members. In this way, we empower and mobilise our members to take joint measures to implement transformation processes.

We prioritise our activities in the fields of action:

Hamburg is a model region for urban logistics solutions
LIHH supports and accompanies the development of concepts for the intelligent utilisation of infrastructures through traffic control and management. It encourages the development of new property and space concepts, especially brownfield development, in logistics and promotes close integration with regional, urban and neighbourhood development.

Hamburg offers an attractive logistics sector for the employees of tomorrow
Taking demographic change and digital transformation into account, LIHH focuses on attracting new employees and promoting a positive corporate culture. The LIHH shows how employers can create an attractive and inclusive working environment for the employees of tomorrow. It shows diverse and future-proof prospects in a working world of the future and thus contributes to a positive image of logistics.

The Hamburg logistics region is a sustainable role model in Europe
LIHH initiates and drives forward projects that promote more sustainable logistics in the liveable Hamburg metropolitan region. It raises awareness of sustainable issues, identifies solutions for the energy transition, utilises the opportunities of the circular economy for new business models and promotes better resilience through climate adaptation measures.

Hamburg as a driver of digital transformation in logistics
LIHH supports established companies in utilising the opportunities of digital transformation. Members are empowered to consistently digitalise and automate logistics processes and supply chains and to identify risks. At the same time, innovative start-ups are driving change in the Digital Hub Logistics & Commerce.

Based on our areas of activity and the needs of our members, we regularly focus on specific topics. You can find out what these are here.

History

In order to further expand Hamburg's role as a leading logistics metropolis in Northern Europe, the then Ministry of Economics and Labour and Hamburg's business community launched the Hamburg Logistics Initiative in 2006.

In 2017, a good ten years after the Logistics Initiative Hamburg was founded, the Institute for Innovation and Technology at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH was commissioned by the Ministry of Economics and Innovation (BWI) to evaluate the Logistics Initiative Hamburg. As part of this evaluation, a strategic development of the initiative was developed in a participatory process with the members, committees, partners and institutions as well as the LIHH office. Building on this, LIHH has been operating in a new structure since 2018 and is consistently developing from a competence network into a forge for the future.

In 2024, the strategy was updated with a focus on the goals for 2030.
